Initially, I was put off by the satirical suggestion that hip-hoppers take on politics and policy making decisions. However, as I erased my previous flame, I was reading what I wrote and realized that a hip-hop – authentic hip hop – democracy might be just what is needed to harness the forces of social justice. Seriously. We need to get people motivated and involved – especially people of color who have to deal with a bias legal system and jaded social welfare program which removes much of the incentives to vote.

It would be interesting to see an artist from the hood rise up and motivate the masses in the spirit of re-evolution.

But can hip-hop stop eating itself before its too late?
