Is fire hot or cold?

SW14: Mef ‘n’ Red

I was actually not sure about posting an edition of Sample Wednesday this week, until I got into a very brief yet poignant conversation with one of my editors at GIANT Magazine (sidenote: the Pharrell feature in the next issue- crazy!) Scott Poulson-Bryant regarding why Method Man didn’t become one of the greats. When Wu-Tang first dropped, he clearly was the shining star and he seemed to have it all: a mean swagger, an incredibly distinct voice (pre-Jadakiss, Ludacris, etc) that sounded like it was fully coated in asphault, and reluctant rugged prettyboy charm. So what happened? The question never quite got resolved, but Scott and I seemed to somewhat settle on the fact that he took way too much time between his first and second LP’s (4 years, which is eternity in music industry time) and that he never captured the magic and straightforwardness of the Grammy winning “All I Need” ever again on record.

Anyway, I’m ranting, and I have some more sh*t to talk before we get into the proceedins this e’nin. 1st, I have to be terribly cliche and say myspace us. 2nd, we have a store opening in the not too distant future on the LES of Manhattan (I’m hype!) that’s going to be filled with flavorful marvelousness including our own original music, so be sure to save some of that back to school (or work) money for Palms Out. 3rd, shout out to the folks at AM New York, I heard that Palms Out was written up yesterday in the publication. If anyone has or can get us a copy of the July 11th edition, hit us up. Big thank you to all of our visitors and supporters, we have a whooooole lot on the way that you want to stay tuned for. Now w/o further ado…

    peazy weazy.
new here on the sample wednesdays section.

just wondering if you considered anyone in the wu as ‘one of the greats’?

i think meff is my fave in the crew, but rae’s cuban links has the best album. meff didn’t become one of the greats because of poor album composition. there are dope tracks, but the albums as a whole weren’t cohesive.
