Sample Wednesday 26: LL & Fox Boogie

For some reason the “I Shot Ya (Remix)” by LL featuring everybody has been looping in my mind all week, so here’s a few tracks that were sampled by Mr. Ladies Love and a waaay too young to be talking about her ill na na, Foxy Brown. Speaking of “I Shot Ya”, what ever happened to the dope hip-hop posse cut?

That aside, I have a particular affinity for the David Porter record below, because I remember DJ Scratch (producer of “Ill Bomb”, which utilized the Porter record) talking about finding dope samples in an interview about 2 years ago. He said that many producers miss out on gems simply because they don’t listen to the whole record. They’ll listen to maybe the first 45 seconds, and if they don’t hear something “sample worthy”, keep it moving. The sample for “Ill Bomb” is about 3 seconds long, and comes with maybe 30 seconds left on the song, after the section that was used for Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya?” That’s a find. Enjoy the tracks folks.

you’re right. i’m actually liking the newest dj khaled posse cut. besides that and a couple others…the most recent I can think back to are john blaze and banned from tv…both were from a minute ago.

there’s always collabos going on down south, but there’s too much beef up north nowadays for us to be seeing any “flava in ear” “i shot ya” caliber type joints

If I’m not mistaken, the I Shot Ya Remix is basically where people got to hear Foxy Brown for the first time…or at least, was her breakout feature pre-”Aint No N#$**” with Jay

Am I the only one that heard the Wu sample on the intro of the Porter Break? Duel of the iron mics from Gza’s liquid swords, get your Wu up! Nice site tho, respect from London.
