Sample Wednesday 32: Big Daddy Kane
My favorite moments when putting this together: a) hearing the sample for Das Efx’s “Danger” in the Gwen McCrae track below and b) hearing Teddy Pendergrass say “come here woman!” mad abruptly in what’s supposed to be the true “let me slow rock you on top of a bed of rose petals and marshmellows” type track. Dig in!

Not trying to sound like a super rap geek here but I think you meant Blazhzay Blahzay’s Danger not Das EFX’s?…

Okay, forgive my ignorance, but somebody sampled the first four seconds of “misdemeanor,” and I can’t for live of me place it right now. Help?

pretty sure you’re talking about the D.O.C. joint “Is It Funky Enough” that Shyne redid with “That’s Gangsta”

Not quite sure where that BT express track is sampled in Kane’s “Smooth operator” but the first guitar riff was used in EPMD’s “so watcha sayin”. The main opening sample/bassline to S.O. was the Mary Jane Girls “all night long”.

I can’t seem to leave this thread alone. Does anyone know if The Brothers: Isley (1969) is the original release of I Turned You On? The 1997 DC reissue of that is going for about $40, and the wax seems scarce. I may have to cough it up, but if it dropped on something else other than a greatest hits… might have to cop that instead.
