At Scion Radio 17 they’re doing it big in ’08.
There are many contenders for the title King of Digging, but only a few can claim the pedigree of this month’s guest on Wax Poetics Radio, Amir Abdullah. As one half of Kon & Amir, he cracked skulls with fathoms-deep rare groove samples in the ‘90s on the legendary On Track mixtape series. At the same time, he was holding down an A&R position at Fat Beats, signing deals to release classics from artists like DITC, ED O.G., and El Da Sensei. After a successful Kings of Digging double CD last year on BBE, he’s moved on to do a full series for the UK label. His latest collection, focusing on deep African and Latin grooves, is dropping this month. Listen in as he throws down an exclusive hour-plus set and talks about the golden years of Fat Beats and why digging for samples is over.
