St. Curvy - Detroit

St. Curvy (abandoned church in Detroit) by "TunnelBug"

This is my first post – something I didn’t think I’d ever be making. Palms Out had won my heart long before I heard they needed some help moving over to a WordPress powered blog. I helped them along with that journey, and in that time became great friends with the wonderful people of Palms Out Sounds. Thank you Haldan, Joee, Urchins, and all of the crew for bringing me on board.

I’m from Detroit, the “birthplace” of techno. The story goes, that a few people from this area pioneered techno – a bunch of college roommates: Art Payne, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, Derek May, Carl Craig, and the list goes on. All those boys are still kicking it Detroit style and I’m fortunate to know them well enough to hear the wild stories of how they all learned to DJ from each other. (Maybe I’ll get that interview someday.)

Kevin Saunderson is throwing some “Experimental Music” parties in Detroit, once a week. This past week I got a live set from both Kevin and Carl Craig. I’m keeping all my favorite Detroit DJ’s live sets over at http://listendetroit.fm – including all of Kevin’s “Experimental Music” parties.

The recording was a little “hot” (and very experimental) this week, but this coming thursday, we should have a pristine live set from Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. If you’re in the Detroit area stop by, it’s at ReLiv (9pm-2am).

Enjoy, and keep your eyes peeled for some more live Detroit Techno here on Palms Out.

Carl Craig – Live @ XM (Club TV) 11/23/09 (Set removed due to “unreleased material.” – Will be back up at a later date.)

Kevin Saunderson – Live @ XM (Club TV) 11/23/09

After being involved with this scene for many years and now beginning to become more involved, I would like to announce Detroit never left. Dormant may be a better term here. It is with grand pride and conviction, I state now we plan on extending our stay now. God bless those who love Detroit and God bless Detroit as we love all of you…
