George Kranz vs. The Roots

By Danny | April 24, 2006

George Kranz is a German Dance Music singer and percussionist best known for his 1984 song “Din Daa Daa”, which hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1984. I’ve posted the George Kranz original along with an amazing live cover of the track by none other than the Roots crew. The Roots cover is the true gem out of the two in my opinion. Enjoy.

Rae and Ghost still got it!

By Danny | March 16, 2006

The new Ghostface album is incredible. There are so many good tracks on Fishscale I’m having trouble not posting the album in its entirety. So instead I’ll throw you guys a few filets to wet your appetite for more. “R.A.G.U.”, featuring Corey Woods a.k.a. Raekwon the Cuizinier, features the triumphant reunion of the boullaibaisse boys, working a beat that I could listen to for days. “Jellyfish” is an ice-cream-style 2006 ode to the ladies, featuring Cappadonna, Trife, and Shawn Wigglesworth aka Shawn Wiggs. The last track I’m posting, “Big Girl”, is yet another sizzling flounder of a track, sampling the Stylistics’ “You’re a Big Girl Now,” one of my favorite songs of theirs, which I will also post. If these tracks don’t convince you to buy Fishscalewhen it drops March 28th, then you are probably a lesbian.

R.A.G.U.” – Ghostface Killah feat. Raekwon
Jellyfish” – Ghostface Killah feat. Cappadonna, Trife, & Shawn Wigs
Big Girl” – Ghostface Killah
You’re a Big Girl Now” – Stylistics

Bronx River Parkway

By Danny | March 3, 2006

The masterminds over at Truth & Soul have blessed us with a rough mix of a new track from their soon to be released latin soul album. Still basking in the glory of their epic show at the Canal Room with Raekwon in NYC a few months back, they recently headed down to Puerto Rico for a few weeks to meet up with a couple of latin soul legends and make beautiful music together. These guys always seem to be a couple steps ahead of the game, always redefining their unique sound and carefully selecting their new releases. Upcoming releases include an album of Memphis soul love songs, a disco 12″ feauturing Blowfly, and a Shaolin Series of Wu-tang instrumental covers on 45. For anybody that will be in Austin for this year’s South By Southwest Festival, you can catch their resident in-house band the El Michels Affair, who will be playing with the Wu-Tang Clan (yes, that’s right) on March 16th. Say werrrrrrrrrrrd!

Quote of the Year (so far)

By Danny | January 27, 2006

“A lot of people are saying Cam made a diss record. I didn’t really make a diss record. If I say Beyonce was on my song, singing about slinging crack, she’s on my second album singing about slinging crack. If I say that I get fined $100,000 every time I diss Def Jam Records, I’m telling y’all right now that they could fine me because it’s supposed to be confidential. If I say someone looks like a camel, they look like a camel. If I say someone has sandals on, they have on sandals. I’m not lying. This is not a diss record.”

-Killa Cam

Scrapped Guru Album cover….

By Danny | January 27, 2006

I think it’s a beautiful album cover. The real story behind this image, actually, is that Guru previewed his new album cover on his website, which apparently had a Matrix vibe to it. Some genius kid on his message board decided to poke fun at him and came up with this great alternate album cover suggestion. Guru’s people got so mad at this that they decided to nix the whole album art. I think Guru’s people should smarten up and hire this dude.

Ladies, take notes. When your man’s chilling with his lady and you know this, don’t blow up his spot, if you want to reach him, hit him on the down low. God damn. Peep game. Love, Danny.

If Your Ho Only Knew….

By Danny | December 28, 2005

Most of these guys sound mentally retarded but some of them actually have flows. In the tradition of athletes trying to be rappers, the University of Miami Hurricanes football team has recorded a song titled “7th Floor Crew” that blows the “Super Bowl Shuffle” out of the water. Favorite line from the song: “What your’s name? Big Nick…What you do? Slang dick..”
