Keep Calm & Carry On
By Haldan | March 10, 2010
The new album from close fam, Australia’s Digital Primate. Mixed & dubbed by the legendary Mad Professor. It’s a collection of mind fuck delayed, sub rumbling dubs that keeps my weed head spinning. While I honestly enjoyed listening to this from start to finish- my favorite cut on the album “I Ain’t” just might be my fave as a result of hours and hours of listening to Digital Primate’s 2008 Palms Out EP release I Ain’t Wid It & I Don’t Give a Fuck.
The track is an expertly crafted dub version of the A side of that EP, “I Ain’t Wid It” — and while I loved all the dancefloor ready remixes we released back then- I have to say this is the best version so far. Primate & Mad Professor take the brilliant instrumental parts, fiddle, fiddle, cut, scrap, chop- until they all really twinkle. Very notably at 2:28 when the violin solo takes us into undeniably musical territory. If you are a fan of dub as I am, you will be a fan of this record.
Digital Primate – “I Ain’t” (Mixed by Mad Professor)
Digital Primate – “Terror” (Mixed by Mad Professor)
So far, the album is not available in the United States, but it should be soon. Until then, head to Digital Primate’s site and listen to the whole thing.

Edu K – Flutesnoot (Mixhell’s B-Live Mix)
By Haldan | February 11, 2010
For all those who have been enjoying these Bacardi B-Live gems that are circulating around the web, we’ve got a heater for you. Previously remixed by Brodinski – is Edu K’s “Flutesnoot” – a fun, off kilter, house tune- now remixed by fellow Brazilians, Mixhell. They’ve converted “Flutesnoot” into a buzzing big beat electro jam. Rock this on your stereos and in the club.

Udachi – P-Funk Skank
By Haldan | February 8, 2010

THIS TRACK IS HUGE! BRING THE BANG BACK!
Udachi has blown the roof off with this one. If you weren’t already up on his stuff, now’s the time. With P-Funk Skank – he cements his place as one of the United States’ hardest hitting producers – I dare you to try not going crazy when this comes on in the club. Grab the original and a nice, slightly dubbier, half-step remix by DC duo Nadastrom.

Staygold w/ Spank Rock, Damien Adore & Robyn
By Haldan | January 31, 2010
Recognize these fellas? This album is going to destroy everyone’s preconceptions of what a pop album can be. Some of the best songs I heard in 2009 (Some of them are actually a little bit older), especially one song – with Mapei – “Roxanne Shante’s Smile” is one of my favorite songs ever ever, I play it every chance I get.
If Staygold don’t blow up, I’ll eat my hat.

Baba Black – Sheep – OUT NOW! (POS013)
By Haldan | January 29, 2010
I am pleased to announce the next release on Palms Out Sounds. This time up, it’s the Danish duo, Baba Black, the meaner and harder side of the expert team known as Lulu Rouge- whom I’ve written about numerous times.
After receiving 8/10 in NME for the debut Lulu Rouge album, and having already released official remixes for the likes of Trentemøller, Moby, Fagget Fairys, Camille Jones, Blank & Jones, Kasper Bjørke, among others — & having been included on compilations like Global Underground, BBC Blue Sessions, Costes, & Buddha Bar — it is now finally time to release the beast that is Baba Black.
Harder, grittier, and dirtier than it’s red counterpart, Baba Black is a monster that is difficult to tame. The debut EP, Sheep, features two stompers – “Dirty Sheep” on the A side, a growly piece of tech-house that boasts a mean bassline and fires sharp disco hi-hats and squeaky stabs incessantly. “Clean Sheep” on the flip, is a slightly lighter experience, but not a sleeper by any means. Also featuring a big persistent bassline and loads of Scandinavian atmosphere, this time it’s countered by icy reverb’ed stabs and huge tension building rises.
Here’s the Baba Black boys and Trentemøller playing “Dirty Sheep” at this year’s Stella Polaris Festival in Copenhagen…
For your listening pleasure, please enjoy the A-side…
Baba Black – Sheep EP is out now on juno, beatport, itunes
Enjoy Baba Black’s Deep & Dirty mixtape – featuring loads of Baba edits.

By Haldan | January 25, 2010
“From top to bottom of the ladder, greed is aroused without knowing where to find ultimate foothold. Nothing can calm it, since its goal is far beyond all it can attain. Reality seems valueless by comparison with the dreams of fevered imaginations; reality is therefore abandoned.

Cookies Fly
By Haldan | January 20, 2010
Last year, Ladybox, a duo of lovely ladies from Copenhagen came with me to New York, and ended up in the studio with our very own AC Slater & B.Rich. The result was this incredibly fun, and tremendously danceable song. A few months later, the EP has been released on AC’s Party Like Us imprint, with two superb originals with a remix from 12th Planet & Flinch as well as in house remixes from B.Rich and AC themselves. Look out for a follow up EP from the Ladybox gals on Palms Out Sounds this spring. For now, enjoy the title track as much as I do, and go cop the EP!

Savage Skulls
By Haldan | January 3, 2010
Teeth gritting bass and tropical bashment bump from Savage Skulls, these polymaths create under more than a few guises, so watch all angles. Check their new mix of Style of Eye’s “Grounded” – not to mention their intensely catchy remix of Taio Cruz’s ”Break Your Heart” – which has been a staple in many of my sets the past 6 months. Watch out for a slew of stimulating releases and remixes from this Swedish duo in 2010. And look forward to Carli (one half of Savage Skulls) teaming up with Marcus Price aka Basutbudet on an upcoming EP on Palms Out Sounds late this winter.
