Spirit Catcher
By Joee Irwin | December 2, 2009
Belgium’s deep disco house duo, Spirit Catcher, have been laying down arpeggiated tracks for the last seven years. Influenced by eighties boogie and detroit techno, they’ve appropriately found home on Marc Romboy’s Systematic and 2020 Vision.
Jean and Thomas wanted to share their latest mix “Missing Danger”. It sounds like Alexander Robotnick and Blake Baxter performing together at a Movement after party in 2003…but right now.

Nothing today,
likely nothing since we tamed fire, is genuinely new:
Culture, like science and technology, grows by accretion,
each new creator building on the works

Rvng of the Nrds Vol. 9: Jackpot
By Joee Irwin | October 10, 2009
Stockholm’s Jackpot have released three new disco edits on boutique record label, Rvng Intl. This is the ninth and second-to-last episode in the label’s Rvng of The Nrds series. ( I highly recommend checking out Vol 5 w/ Wade Nichols)
The duo cuts a disco Diamond to pieces with handclap slapback and string stabs a plenty on the a-side. And the b-side gets ahead of the beat on a sure bet of
Dreamy arpeggiation and rolls the Bones on an early house classic. In typical Rvng style they’ve pressed a limited run of vinyl, which are not be available digitally.
Jackpot – “Brief Encounter” [A-Side]

Aside from DJing and producing (now) three EPs that have gotten play around the world, he helped create Traktor DJ software. – This third EP of his, For Lovers, will be released on Axel Bartsch’s Sportclub Music label. All four songs were clearly influenced by Berlin’s house scene, and have been getting support from a diverse crowd including Luciano, Hot Chip, Italoboyz, and Philip Sherburne. Temportary Secretary
By Joee Irwin | August 28, 2009
Dixon of Innervisions has a new mix, Temporary Secretary, on the way. It’s different than most of the mixes being blogged (ahem) because this is a collection of unreleased remixes and edits made exclusively for the album. It’s a great listen…truly an experience. And to help promote the mix, Innervisions is giving away the pre-edited version of Âme‘s Setsa, which to me sounds like a fairytale about hang gliding.
Tracklist Video by Obscene NYC of Dixon at House and Home
01. Icasol – Ongou
02. Fever Ray – If I Had a Heart
03. Roland Bocquet – Exotique / Âme – Tube Beat
04. Jazzanova – Let Me Show Ya (Henrik Schwarz Remix) / Daniel Paul – Something About You (Instrumental)
05. Precious System – The Voice From Planet Love / Ben Klock – In a While
06. Junior Boys – Hazel (Ewan Pearson’s House Mix)
07. Butane – Inferno Jack (Kalabrese Remix)
08. Peter Kruder – Law Of Return
09. Kiki – Good Voodoo (Visionquest Remix)
10. Code 718 – Equinox (Henrik Schwarz Mix)
11. The Machine – Fuse
12. Cortney Tidwell – Watusii (Daphni remix)
13. Ame – Setsa
14. Tokyo Black Star – Sepiaphone

Derek Plaslaiko: Projektion 04
By Joee Irwin | July 31, 2009
I’d like to share with all a mix from one of my favorite DJs, Derek Plaslaiko.
Derek, time and time again wows crowds with his skilled and unforgiving journeys. For the past 15 years the Detroit native has been perfecting his craft through the world’s techno scene. In fact, his ability to tell stories through music surpasses his native tongue. I mean, I guess could just write a bunch of lofty stuff saying how great he is, but fuck it: Derek Plaslaiko is amazing!
Seriously,
dude. is. awesome!
Listen to this mix he did for the Projekt podcast series,
I highly recommend it!
