#Seapunk Compilation Volume 1
By Leif | September 9, 2011

As the American summer plunges into hurricane season, Coral Records Internazionale is taking the beach party indoors and straight to the nearest subwoofer. The new label, created by Midwestern DJ and producer Fire For Effect, features tracks and visuals defined as #seapunk —a tumblr and twitter buzzword that indicates loose expectations of compositions influenced by the serenity of the water world. A fair share of ambient synths and familiar breaks make a big splash on ‘#Seapunk Compilation Volume 1′, Coral Records’ forthcoming first release.
UNKNOWN, an alias of Kansas City-based producer Huerco S., blends nature sounds, Jungle drums, and a raspy Mary J. Blige sample into perfectly sexy rave music with ‘Put U On’.
The R&B queen makes a second sassy appearance on Fire For Effect’s ‘Just Fine (Subaquatic) 2.0′, a hectic Baltimore Club remix of Ms.Blige’s 2007 single ‘Just Fine’ that will have even the most average weekend warrior dancing in their desk chair.
Check out the rest of the compilation due out on September 11 and available for pre-order here.

NIYI
By Leif | September 23, 2008

I remember having an obsession with Niyi‘s few rap tunes just after his club night was the first to be labeled “New Rave”, his best friend started clothing label ‘Cassette Playa’, and his former schoolmate M.I.A. had first uploaded her video for ‘Galang’ to the internet. High ranking royalty in London underground art for over half a decade now, Niyi has finally put out a new single, and finished a full length album set for an early 2009 release. Seemingly inspired by weighted global issues as much as drunk banter, new Niyi ate up everything pop, indie, and rap… and threw up funny colors.
Niyi – “808 Klap“
Niyi – “Amelia“
If you wanna take a crack at remixing “Amelia”, you can download the parts here.

Afrika On Blast 1: Spoek
By Leif | February 20, 2008
Neolectroafrobot.

Not your average technicolor booty bass rapper, Spoek Mathambo of Sweat.X, is creating some vulgar bangers. Based in South Africa, he creates club tracks that break pop arrangement like Spank Rock using a collaborative process with remixer-producers like Santogold… a formula for dancefloor success. Plus his voice is mad sexy. Whatever’s in the water down there, I’m trying to get it bottled.
Djedjotronic & Spoek – “Strongbow”
Djedjotronic & Spoek – “Dirty & Hard”
Copenhagen residents – don’t miss Sweat.X when they perform at the ArtRebels explosion at Stengade 30 on March 21st.

B.O.O.T.A.Y. Video
By Leif | December 4, 2007
Spank Rock & Benny Blanco’s rumpshake theatre.
One of Palms Out’s favorite Philly friends, Spank Rock, just released the second of 5 Bangers & Cash videos, B.O.O.T.A.Y. via RCRD LBL. The video includes our fellow Brooklyn betties, Santogold, Illvia (of Kudu), Amanda Blank, and of course the producer Benny Blanco. This is Spank’s second video directed by Jesse Engaard; the first being “Rick Rubin”. RCRD LBL has some player issues with loading, so hit play now and check back in a few. It’s worth seeing Amanda Blank play a crack head.

You Don’t Know 2-Step
By Leif | November 20, 2007
Sometimes I like to booty pop in my Timbs.

New York’s resident homothug house producer-rapper-dj Kingdom recently announced his new girl group Michelle, a set of black hipster divas whose flow is somewhere between Crime Mob & JJ Fad.

Michelle – “You Don’t Know Michelle“
Kingdom’s own music is really on the up and ups. His thugrave tracks have been covering ground in Brooklyn, Boston, Sweden, and anywhere else where people like crystals and vodka and shit.
Kingdom – “Jump Up Step Back“
Kingdom – “Buck’N” ft. SR Palm
Keyshia Cole – “Let It Go” ft. Missy & Lil Kim (Kingdoms 909 Remix)

Grab The Schaaf
By Leif | October 30, 2007
I think Harrison Schaaf is the next Kavinsky.

Los Angeles boy Harrison Schaaf is on the brink of causing some ruckus. Inspired by MSTRKRFT, Daft Punk, and the other usual suspects, he’s creating a very clean post-Ed Banger disco house sound. While his wilder, more worldly compositions are still in the works, he’s hooked us up with some incredible two stepping treats.
Harrison Schaaf – “Clean Like My Conscience“
Harrison Schaaf – “Twoface“
Harrison Schaaf – “Zombie Outbreak“
Harrison Schaaf – “Karate (I Make It Rain)“
Amazing.

He’s been on Remix Sunday too:
T.I. – “What You Know” (Harrison Schaaf Remix)
Amazing.

Give Me Heart Attack
By Leif | October 23, 2007

If you thought Bmore was over, bitch shut the fuck up.
My favorite OCD negro, DLake‘s new EP B.O.H. Vol.1 is the sickest stuff I’ve ever heard. The first single is “Dance All Night”, which you might have heard (and you can get straight from DLake himself) but you’ve got to hear some of the other bangers from the EP too:
DLake & Curtis Vodka ft. Em Benn – “Transitute (Eat My Dick)“
DLake ft. JC & Demetrius – “Diffibulator” (Bird Peterson Remix)
And don’t miss the accompanying mix tape Bmore Of a Hipster – The Mixtape
Catch DLake on his Northeast mini tour October 29 – November 3. DC to Boston.
–for you Curtis Vodka fans out there, what do you think of this pretty much unheard of track he put out last xmas? It’s closer to Booka Shade than Scottie B… and awesome.
Curtis Vodka – “Ppprmint+Siztx“
ps. DLake’s been around here before… those of you who enjoyed his incredible (but not particularly mixable) remix of Gotye’s “Heart’s A Mess” can now grab a new version with a mixable intro and outro.
Gotye – “Heart’s A Mess” (DLake Remix) [mixable version]

Dub Club Political
By Leif | October 9, 2007

“People see our press pictures and ask ‘is this band casted?’ “- Jahcoozi
I just got my hands on the new Jahcoozi album, Blitz ‘N’ Ass. The sexiest most diverse band around: Sri Lankan lady MC, sexy Berliner electro dude, dreaded Isreali dub head – If you know any other band making glitch-dub dance music about gay tolerance, gameboys, grace jones, and gentrification, please let me know.
Jahcoozi – “BLN“
Jahcoozi – “Takin’ Your Street“
Jahcoozi – “Rainbow Coloured Rizzla“
…oh yeah, Fagget Fairys… [pre-order ff 12"]

Stockholm Syndrome

Sweden’s educated and nasty Mapei gets sultry with electro-duo Stuffa.
The result makes you two-step, hard.
Stuffa & Andy ft. Mapei – “Pretty Girls“
Stuffa & Andy ft. Mapei – “Pretty Girls” (The Infiltrators Remix)
Editor’s notes:
PS! Isla from Purple Crush just sent over the amazing video for their Acid Jacks response song posted yesterday, “My Ookie”. Puppets rule MTV!
