Nicolas Jaar, James Blake, Oliver & Fran
By Noël | October 7, 2010
Some beautiful tunes to fill the Thursday evening air.
Nicolas Jaar has a new EP coming out on Double Standard on the 18th. I’m madly in love with his work. Check out the Kasper Bjørke remix he did.
Kasper Bjorke – “Heaven” ft. Loui Foo (Nicolas Jaar Remix)
James Blake covers Feist’s “Limit To Your Love.” During the break there is some major major bass that makes the room shake. Beautiful track.

Oliver & Fran’s “Arrow & Bow” (Marek Hemmann Remix) makes people go crazy. Every time I am on the dance floor and someone plays this track, the girls go nuts. Just enough poppy-ness with some deep elements mixed in.

AIAIAI TMA-1 Review
By Noël | September 18, 2010

You wouldn’t think someone could pull off the perfect headphone, but I believe AIAIAI did. They swirled design, technology, sonics, and durability around and managed to find the perfect balance. The TMA-1 is a magnificent DJ headphone.
I made it a point to delay writing this article, until I got over the visual appeal of the headphones. But, truth be told, I couldn’t find a negative, except that they don’t really fold up much.
Most striking is the design. They are minimal and utilitarian. Not distracting, but definitely eye catching. They are really beautiful. The phones are coated in an almost military grade rubber and are sturdy as can be. You could spill a drink on them, step on an ear-cup and not worry about them breaking. They sit nicely on your head, and don’t cause any fatigue weighing in at 190 grams.
Sonically, they are also pretty great and most noticeably, they are loud. When you compare back to back, you can tell the sensitivity is high and that they slightly accentuate the bass, but it’s almost a perfect balance for playing live.
It’s the little things that count, though. AIAIAI didn’t stop with just providing amazing headphones, the carrying bag is also a work of art. It’s fashioned out of microfiber cloth and netting inside, with a really really large zipper, so you can open and close the bag easily in the dark.

We don’t have any direct affiliation with AIAIAI, we just really like these.

Palms Out is proud to announce the release of Melt’s debut EP entitled Don’t Leave Me This Way. Beautiful, dark and melancholic, this smoothly cut 7″ sits close to our hearts. It’s a truly enjoyable record. One that is unique and at the same time danceable and musically dense.

Scion A/V x Sound Pellegrino
By Noël | July 28, 2010
Scion A/V and Sound Pellegrino have put together a really stellar compilation. The sound is pretty diverse, from banger to klezmer. Proudly, it features a remix from our very own LOL Boys.

Doctor Illingsworth
By Noël | July 20, 2010

Doctor Illingsworth is a hidden gem in the rough that is Detroit. It’s not often Detroit produces an artist that innately heads towards that garagey, funky, future-sound vibe – but Doc does. His foundation is strong and I’m excited to see what he does in the future.
Doc did a “beat a week” a while back and produced, “Not Really Fried,” my favorite track of his. Check it out below and make sure to peep the rest of his tracks on his SoundCloud page.

Tribute to Detroit
By Noël | July 14, 2010

The senses tell us that Detroit is changing, and that change is in the air – sweet vibrations of sound. We have a fair number of new producers coming out of Detroit, and even our very own Melt/POS017 (coming soon) was pressed in Detroit at Archer Records.
Today, I want to share with you some new music from Phil Agosta. We’ve got a classic love affair with Inner City melded with modern production. I heard this track at DEMF and it had the floor moving. Even Kevin Saunderson himself is giving it high praise. You just can’t beat that. Tribute to Detroit is out July 20th on KGBeats.

Detroit Experiment
By Noël | December 1, 2009
This is my first post – something I didn’t think I’d ever be making. Palms Out had won my heart long before I heard they needed some help moving over to a WordPress powered blog. I helped them along with that journey, and in that time became great friends with the wonderful people of Palms Out Sounds. Thank you Haldan, Joee, Urchins, and all of the crew for bringing me on board.
I’m from Detroit, the “birthplace” of techno. The story goes, that a few people from this area pioneered techno – a bunch of college roommates: Art Payne, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, Derek May, Carl Craig, and the list goes on. All those boys are still kicking it Detroit style and I’m fortunate to know them well enough to hear the wild stories of how they all learned to DJ from each other. (Maybe I’ll get that interview someday.)
Kevin Saunderson is throwing some “Experimental Music” parties in Detroit, once a week. This past week I got a live set from both Kevin and Carl Craig. I’m keeping all my favorite Detroit DJ’s live sets over at http://listendetroit.fm – including all of Kevin’s “Experimental Music” parties.
The recording was a little “hot” (and very experimental) this week, but this coming thursday, we should have a pristine live set from Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. If you’re in the Detroit area stop by, it’s at ReLiv (9pm-2am).
Enjoy, and keep your eyes peeled for some more live Detroit Techno here on Palms Out.
Carl Craig – Live @ XM (Club TV) 11/23/09 (Set removed due to “unreleased material.” – Will be back up at a later date.)
