8oh8!

By Urchins | December 2, 2009

A1-1

A1 Bassline has consistently been one of our favourite artists over the past couple of years, and Christian has really taken strides to move his sound forward and onto bigger and better things. The culmination of this was a Southern Fried Records EP which featured a couple of new songs, and a couple of older favourites too. This new sound is an amalgamation of the basslines and drum loops which so endeared us to him in the early days, with new influence from Dutch House and even Techno coming together to make a much more mature and well rounded effort in ’8oh8′ and also in ‘Here Come Da’. The lovely people over at Southern Fried have given us these two belters for you, and you can grab the rest of the EP over at Beatport!

Lies

By Urchins | November 5, 2009

fenech-soler

Fenech Soler have been arguably the most hyped underground band in Britain in the latter part of 2009; carving a very definite mark in a number of London scenes with their perfectly balanced dancefloor pop – the guys are as at home with the indie kids as they are in a club. Their debut EP was ridiculously well received, and their live shows have been the stuff of legend for months now – we think that 2010 will be a very VERY good year for this Kings Cliffe quartet; and they go into it on a very strong footing with a solid release on Moda Music. Remixes on the package include winners by Alex Metric and Tom Staar, plus the Phantom’s Revenge remix which you can find just below!! Go check iTunes and Beatport for the full release!

Reset!

By Urchins | October 28, 2009

master+myspace-vintage

Earlier this year we posted about a collective of DJs / Promoters / Producers and all round busy Italian guys called Reset! It was clear even back then that they were on the right track, fast forward to today and things are about to get very exciting for our Milan based music mafioso. Not only have they become the latest addition to the ever-improving Cheaper Thrills roster with their forthcoming ‘My Truck’ EP, but they have put together a remix for Cassius‘ ‘Youth Speed Trouble Cigarettes’ comeback single, which has already found its way not only in to the CD bags of DJs worldwide, but on to the Mixmag Cover CD from ‘Club 75′.

We’re super pleased to exclusively give you this remix, plus a reworking of a classic drum & bass tune, and a 40 minute Autumn Promo Mix to boot! Go give Reset! some love before they hit the next level; whatever that might be!

Sugarbeat Club w/ AC SLATER & URCHINS

By Urchins | October 20, 2009

eda6oct09

We think it’s important that we keep you lovely people up to date with what the Palms Out family is doing in it’s quest for global domination, and to big up the shows that stand out on our collective calendars. A quick perusal of the dates of our bass heavy brederin AC Slater will tell you that he’s currently tearing up dancefloors in the UK – and we’re massively excited to be joining forces with him in a Palms Out hijacking of one of the Isle’s favourite nights – Sugarbeat Club! Ran by Utah Saints; the night has already played host to Soulwax, Felix da Housecat and DJ Ca$h Money, and a whole host more – and next Friday sees AC and Calvertron smashing up room 1, whilst Urchins stake a claim to room 2 for the long haul. Come down and show us some love! Click the link below to get the full info.

Aout6

By Urchins | October 20, 2009

AOUT6_PH1X600

Lithuania is not a country that you generally hear much about. A quick check of a generic online encyclopedia will tell you a fair bit about the former Soviet ties and subsequent independence, along with the fact that Vilnius is currently a very deserving ‘European Capital of Culture’. What it sadly doesn’t tell you is about the underground music scene that has been bubbling away for the past couple of years – powered largely by Metal on Metal, The Sneekers and Aout6. The latter has recently released a debut EP, Stolen Stylophone; which has gained some heavy support from a diverse range of DJ’s from Larry Tee through to DJ Zinc. We’re pleased to offer you three of those tracks, including a fairly tech heavy effort from Tom EQ

Lorcan Mak Mixtape

By Urchins | September 15, 2009

l_998d7ba69e534f8c99dc609f6417747e

In the past few months it’s become apparent that squeaky synth hooks and huge kicks are now a fine match for the more tried and tested big bassline / distortion method that’s been dominating our clubs for the past couple of years. People like Afrojack, Kid Kaio and Harvard Bass have proven this beyond any doubt and now a lot more producers are starting to take this route, meaning we’re beginning to see a new ‘mini-genre’ of DJ’s and producers who are kicking up a fuss somewhere in between techno, bmore and plenty of other ‘house’ based genres. One of the latest producers to get in on the act is a super young Irish chap called Lorcan Mak; who has already seen two of his original tracks top Brodinski’s monthly charts; which is a fairly strong start! He has put together a mix for us which contains a whole bunch of his own tracks, plus an exclusive first listen of a Kid Kaio remix of our track ‘Tickets’ which is forthcoming on Palms Out sometime very soon. Check out the mix, and then go check out his myspace to see where you can catch him!

When You Wish Upon a Staar

By Urchins | September 13, 2009

arecibo.message

For the past 200 odd years we earthlings have been trying to communicate with interstellar beings. Beaming out strange binary codes, wierd sound-waves and on a more primitive level – using NASA spacecrafts. To be completely honest, so far we’ve done pretty terribly. The above picture is the ‘Aricebo Message’ which is commonly accepted as being the most ‘successful experiment of it’s kind’ – though considering that it will take 25,000 years to reach it’s destination, and then another 25,000 for us to get a reply; it’s difficult to see how this was a success. And even if it does reach it’s destination – what the hell are they going to think about Earth? That it’s like Space Invaders on acid? Probably.

It’s time for someone else to step up and give it a go, and it seems that the clever so-and-sos at Moda Music have managed to achieve what nobody else has ever got close to. They’ve managed to get hold of some messages sent by Tom Staar – a ‘lonely space traveller searching for his long lost intergalactic compadres’. How they managed to decipher the messages is anyone’s guess, but the end result is a blistering new EP full of twinkling disco synths, heavy basslines and his own vocals (presumably translated verbatim into English….). Unsurprisingly, this EP has been creating a lot of well deserved attention, and finally becomes available to download on Beatport from September 21st. In the meantime, check out the minimix and a nice Album track that we’ve been given on Tom’s behalf!

So things have been gathering pace behind the scenes, and the changeover to the brand spanking new Palms Out v.2 is well underway; with the final stages happening in the next week or so! Once this happens, things will be back up to full speed again – we’re going to be trying a whole bunch of new stuff as well (and maybe even a rehash of some older ideas….). New York, This is London’. Far from stopping there, our latest curator has continued to be turned to by any label who’s looking to add some steel to their latest signing. On top of all this, he hosts a weekly radio show on Ministry Of Sound Radio, so we’re uber pleased that DAVID E SUGAR found the time to deliver us a mixtape of the highest quality! Featuring a bunch of unsung gems and a host of guest speeches from some of your favourite producers (guess which ones!), this is a welcome addition to our iPod for the rest of the season!!

Watch The Sun Come Up!!

By Urchins | August 7, 2009

Summer is a season of holiday romances; whether you wake up confused as to what exactly is lying next to you in your hotel room, or spend a sunset staring into each others eyes spouting nonsense about “being the one” – we’ve almost all been there in some respect. Example thinks that it’s sunsets and beaches that seem to tease the words “I love you” out of the most stubborn mouths, and the subject of his latest assault on the world reflects this well!

After stepping into the big leagues with the success of ‘Hooligans’, our boy has found himself working with the hitmaking team ‘Metrophonic’ and also the man who can almost definitely guarantee you a number one record right now; Calvin Harris. ‘Watch The Sun Come Up’ is deservedly going to be huge; we’re sure you’ve heard it all over every Radio station and holiday resort this summer, so we don’t need to talk about the catchy chorus and melodic keys; but now we’re offering up the EXCLUSIVE first listen of the remixes! If you had to pick the hottest remixer in both the disco and dubstep scenes right now, chances are you’d pick these two. Fred Falke and Joker & Ginz are sure-fire choices for even the most discerning genre follower – and these mixes only add to the ridiculously consistent body of work produced by both. Joker remix is just sillllllly good!! Get on them….

Example – ‘Watch the Sun Come Up’ (Fred Falke Remix)

Example – ‘Watch the Sun Come Up’ (Joker & Ginz Remix)

Sounds of Summer 15 – SHARKSLAYER!!

By Urchins | August 3, 2009

One thing everyone wants to do in the summer is jump straight in the sea. Unless you live in England, of course, in which case this genuinely results in being dirtier than when you got in. We could all do with the latest artist to pound out a Sounds of Summer mixtape at our side for such ventures, especially if they can actually live up to their name…..

These guys have only been on the scene for a few, very productive, months – and have already stamped their name onto releases on Dubsided, So Sweet and Trouble & Bass. A pretty good return for any producer, let alone those just starting out! Their latest remix (get ready for some shameless self promotion….) sees them absolutely destroy Digital Manges – ‘Manges’, which is out right now, on Palms Out records, and you can grab it HERE. Not just blowing our own trumpet without cause, this track is blowing up dancefloors at the hands of such luminaries as Laidback Luke, Diplo and Jaymo & Andy George (which reminds me just how late THEIR mix is…) If you’re not already all over these dudes, we suggest that you do so immediately. It’s always safe to go in the water with…..SHARKSLAYER!!

Sharkslayer – ‘Sounds of Summer mix 15′ (mediafire link again)

Sounds of Summer 14 – SANTIAGO & BUSHIDO!!

By Urchins | July 28, 2009

Next up in our quest for eargasms this summer is a duo who’ve just found themselves literally on top of the pile in the electro world – Number 1 on the Beatport Chart with their latest EP ‘UWLMF’. Far from being a surprise; the success was pretty much a given – everything that these two put is solid and uber-playable, by pretty much any DJ. It wasn’t their first chart-topper either; ‘Head Trick’ was among the top 8 most downloaded tracks on Beatport during 2008, and remains one of the safest bets in my CD wallet. Synonymous with Chicago label Potty Mouth, our boys are heading down under for a much anticipated series of dates in Australia, and are following that up with a trip over to Europe in Autumn. Their mix demonstrates the maturity that is so evident in their music, taking in jazz, funk and a bunch more before returning to some tried and tested summer house bangers, it can only be….SANTIAGO & BUSHIDO!!

Santiago & Bushido – ‘Sounds of Summer mix 13′ (mediafire link…we’ll be back on server VERY soon, honest)

Keep an eye out for mixes from Scott Cooper, Detboi, Utah Saints and Afrojack!!

D Train – Keep On
Quando Quando – Love Tempo
Lidel Townsell – Nunu

It’s always good to see someone who you’ve followed make a success of things; someone who spends countless hours making music and friends, whilst being more than happy to give away the fruits of their labour for no profit. Sounds of Summer 12 – SHADOW DANCER!!

By Urchins | July 9, 2009

Crikey have we got a treat for you tonight! Our latest mix comes from a couple of guys who have swiftly become one of the most respected duos since peas and carrots; knocking up a number of critically acclaimed EP’s on Boys Noize Records before firmly stamping their name on the electronic music world with the hugely successful and equally imaginative ‘Golden Traxe’ LP.
