With lineups that are surprising, insightful, and always on the absolute tip of the edge featuring DJ’s, Producers, and artists who are true creators and who’s only goal is to keep the dancefloor live. The environment is an ever changing inspiration of visual artists who’s installations fill the void of your mind with something new to deconstruct and experience.

Past Dark Disco’s have featured such great talent as: Boys Noize, A-Trak, Diplo, Mary Anne Hobbes, Nosaj Thing, Peaches, the US return of MJ Cole and so many more.

Dark Disco is the adventure of MeanRed Co-Owners Jen Lyon & Katie Longmyer. Two agitators and instigators who delight in creating and causing a stir and a discussion and who ultimately, just want to have a good time.

This Dark Disco, we are proud to bring KINGDOM back to NYC.
Alongside him will be DJs MESS KID (Palms Out), hometown hero KAVIAR DISCO, and Palms Out fam, DOYO aka RubenXYZ, who happens to be the director of the stellar Zebra Katz video, as well.

CMJ has never really made sense to me. A bunch of bands, acts and DJs performing a week long festival in NYC. It is hardly the place to host a festival. Isn’t there always lots of acts all year around at very close venues? Where CMJ can succeed is by showcasing more than up and coming acts, but perhaps a new idea. Thus, BPM 2011 is born. This event is about show casing new and innovative minds that are pioneering a unique pulse, that is the backbone of genres already formed. The pride in this group is the fact that it is not definable, a product, or package. Enjoy some preview music below, and we hope to see you this Friday. The San Francisco based label, Frite Nite, has just released the 13th installment in their catalog, a compilation of tracks carefully selected and mixed by the Bay Area’s own Ana Sia.  Surreal Estate is a “collection of tribal-influenced space dance grooves, progressive footwork, modern electro funk, and UK-centric dubstep rhythms”, that transcend space and time as well as modern perceptions of the American bass scene.  The highly anticipated release is available in multiple formats including a 12″ sampler with digital download, or both mixed and unmixed versions on the Frite Nite website.  Not to mention it boasts appropriately Escher-esque cover art by Kilian Eng and productions from Distal, EPROM, Starkey, Cosmic Revenge, B. My boy Starkey and I run this label called Seclusiasis and we like to drop music that we think is fire. Pittsburgh’s Kastle (aka Palms Out own B. Rich) has been smashing it with his fresh take on bass music; taking elements of r&b, garage, dubstep and house to fuse his own unique style. Seclusiasis is proud to present Kastle’s highly anticipated debut EP, Time Traveler, which is sure to make you excited and sweaty when released on 12″ and digital. Palms Out is well represented at SXSW this year, particularly at this Friday, the 18th’s Party After the End of the World with Palms Out artists Dubbel Dutch, LOL Boys, & Samo Sound Boy playing alongside some other stellar & familiar names. This is the party to go to, RSVP here.

One of my favorite Danish bands (and bands, period) – Giana Factory – are coming out with their first full album, Save The Youth, this Fall. To get people ready, they are embarking on a US tour which starts this Saturday, March 12th – with a showcase at Glasslands with London group, Still Corners – presented by FADER & Popgun. If you can’t make it to that one, they are also playing the 13th at Littlefield for a SXSW send off party, the 14th at Scandinavia House, and the 15th at Mercury Lounge with Whomadewho. Don’t miss these girls, their live set is dreamy. For those of you in Austin SXSW, they are also doing a string of shows there next weekend. So don’t miss em!

In preparation for the release of their album this fall, the band will be releasing a series of 7″s featuring one song from the album, and a remake by former tour mates like Glasvegas, Whomadewho, Autolux, and now first up: dark electronica king, Trentemøller. I’m happy to be able to share the remake with you now. Our good friends in Copenhagen based collective, ArtRebels – put on the most wonderful event every Summer- Trailerpark Festival. Most readers of this site will be familiar. I’ve DJed 3 out of the 4 years they’ve held it, and the experience is unparalleled. The festival is completely community driven, without much help from corporate sponsors. Anyone who has a chance to attend this Summer would be a fool not to. Documentary filmmaker Simon Weythe filmed many of the performances last year, and did profiles on some of the people who make Trailerpark possible. The result is a lovely six part documentary series, which I was more than happy to provide subtitles for. Each week, a new episode will premiere on the new-and-revitalized ArtRebels blog.

Stagga’s been pumping out OG dubstep for awhile now, and he’s got the testosterone-fueled death wobble sound on lock. However, it wasn’t until I encountered tracks like Rub On Ya Bass Binz and Face Gets Splat that peripheral interest became pure, unadulterated love. This new collab with Joe Blow and Skamma is a propa chune, bruv. It’s nice and minimal, but with a jerky, off-time quality to the rhythm that makes the producer’s moniker all the more appropriate.
