Despite the Summer being over, the two ladies in Ung Flugt have delivered such a bone warming mix for us, that it manages to remind me of sunshine and soft air all over again. As two of the best DJs in Copenhagen, Ung Flugt (Danish for Young Escape) have mastered their own style, a mixture of smooth girly techno, and tight, bouncy, house. While they are fixtures in the Copenhagen scene, perhaps their style really fits better in places like Germany or Spain, where they are starting to play more and more often (hint hint). On top of their great selections, and solid technique, they are also two of the loveliest girls in town, and I’m proud to have them finish off our Sounds of Summer series, with their Indian Summer edition.

So things have been gathering pace behind the scenes, and the changeover to the brand spanking new Palms Out v.2 is well underway; with the final stages happening in the next week or so! Once this happens, things will be back up to full speed again – we’re going to be trying a whole bunch of new stuff as well (and maybe even a rehash of some older ideas….). Keep em peeled, and thanks for your patience!

But in the meantime, we’re going to try and appease you with another fantastic Sounds of Summer mixtape! This week sees a real big hitter step up to the plate; and a mix that we’ve been excited about since the moment he got in touch with us. He has been consistently at the forefront of house music for longer than I care to remember, can boast classic remixes for artists like Klaxons, and released one of the most definining tracks of 2007 in ‘Oi! New York, This is London’. Far from stopping there, our latest curator has continued to be turned to by any label who’s looking to add some steel to their latest signing. On top of all this, he hosts a weekly radio show on Ministry Of Sound Radio, so we’re uber pleased that DAVID E SUGAR found the time to deliver us a mixtape of the highest quality! Featuring a bunch of unsung gems and a host of guest speeches from some of your favourite producers (guess which ones!), this is a welcome addition to our iPod for the rest of the season!!

One thing everyone wants to do in the summer is jump straight in the sea. Unless you live in England, of course, in which case this genuinely results in being dirtier than when you got in. We could all do with the latest artist to pound out a Sounds of Summer mixtape at our side for such ventures, especially if they can actually live up to their name…..

These guys have only been on the scene for a few, very productive, months – and have already stamped their name onto releases on Dubsided, So Sweet and Trouble & Bass. A pretty good return for any producer, let alone those just starting out! Their latest remix (get ready for some shameless self promotion….) sees them absolutely destroy Digital Manges – ‘Manges’, which is out right now, on Palms Out records, and you can grab it HERE. Not just blowing our own trumpet without cause, this track is blowing up dancefloors at the hands of such luminaries as Laidback Luke, Diplo and Jaymo & Andy George (which reminds me just how late THEIR mix is…) If you’re not already all over these dudes, we suggest that you do so immediately. After bringing you Sounds of Summer mixes from some of the most established producer / djs from around the world we’ve decided to give some seriously fresh talent a chance to show you how they do. These guys have been quietly plugging away for about a year now, knocking up re-edits and mixes that have been featured all over the blogosphere. Along with this they have founded a club night in the most talked about new venue in Leeds; A Nation of Shopkeepers, which has already seen them share the bill with Jokers of The Scene, Hostage and a whole host of big dogs. Sounds of Summer 10 – DESTROY DISCO!!

So we’ve managed to get into double figures with our Summer music push (with the exception of 03; which we’re assured is going to be the best, if not most delayed, mix in history) and we’ve decided to go Southern Hemisphere! Despite their insistence that “its winter over here now” it’s actually more likely that it’s hotter in Australia than the places where most of you are reading this…so don’t give them any sympathy! These boys have been at the forefront of Australian house music for a few years now, and their eponymous ‘Fly or Bounce’ track recieved worldwide plays from some of the biggest DJs. They have remixed for Jokers of The Scene, Malente and AC Slater; and have a whole bunch of music ready for release in 2009! A couple of these tracks are featured in the mix; along with a whole bunch of other big tracks – making this ideal for pre-club antics! Sheilas and Bruces….go mental for DESTROY DISCO!!

It seems that the summer is back with a vengeance over here; it’s very rare we Brits get hotter weather than Tenerife…and yet still 80% of the population wonder why they get sunburnt when they sit outside all day without suncream. The other 20% moan that it’s now ‘too hot’. Todays mixtape is more soothing than a bottle of camomile on your peeling, chargrilled skin – a real trip through some obscure but ultimately beautiful noises, held together with a thread of summer vibes. It comes to you from Japan’s most famed producer; a man who is currently touring America on the back of numerous huge releases on labels like Southern Fried and Dim Mak under his new guise; whilst his past reveals a hugely succesful and eclectic musical career in his homeland. First up i’d like to say thanks to all of those who were nice about Sounds of Summer 07; we’re glad you enjoyed it! But if there’s one thing we DON’T like doing with this project, it’s resting on our laurels….today we’re bringing you the next installment of our incredibly well recieved project with a a mix unlike any other that we’ve posted so far. We’ve had garage interpretations of summer, funk interpretations; and now we bring you a mix which came with the tagline “Songs that I’m liking at the moment”…and strangely enough it works! So next up in our Summer Mixtape Amnesty is one by…..ourselves! (Attempting not to fall into third person here) After telling everyone else to do “summer themed mixtapes” I suppose it was only fair that we delivered a mix ourselves – and we’ve crammed it full of old funk, jazz and motown with a sprinkling of shamefully cheesy 90′s house and a couple of chillout tunes to finish you off. We’ve been really pleased with the project so far, hopefully our mix works really well in the sunshine; it certainly helped that the weather was lovely here whilst we were making it! This mix was supposed to be promoting our Potty Mouth EP, which has unfortunately been delayed and will be upon the world in July now. It’s been a long time coming so we’re hyped about it seeing daylight! We’re working on an EP with Spoek at the minute too, so keep em peeled! Next up in our Summer music drive is a name that has been catching eyes and ears around the world for the past few months whilst spearheading the “filter-nu-house-diso-french-revivalist” movement. Take a look at the tracklist before you listen, and you know it’s going to be something special – this mix has got more classics than the British Library and more funk than a gallon of James Brown’s manjuice. I’ve had a listen on a gloomy Thursday night whilst watching sixteen nobodies grasp hopelessly at fame and yet it felt like I was in Rio. In 1999.

Today marks the (un)official launch of Summer 2009 – with our Sounds of Summer mixtape project! Whether you want music for the beach, beats before the club or simply something to listen to whilst you’re yearning to be outside tanning it up; over the next 13 weeks we’ll be keeping your ears well and truly occupied.

We could think of no better way to start the series than with a mix from one of our favorite producers – an all-round nice guy whose been rising faster than recent BBQ sales since we gave you the exclusive on his defining remix of Mystery Jets, this past Autumn. Foamo now finds himself incredibly in demand; with a summer calendar peppered with residency slots in the Chew The Fat room at Space, Ibiza – and we’re super pleased he managed to find time to put together a collection of sure-fire seasonal anthems. It appears that, for those of us in Europe at least, Summer could finally be here. If England is seeing some sunshine then it’s a good bet that the rest of the world is basking in the golden sunshine that seems to elude us Brits for 11 months of the year. If not slightly more. Whether you’re planning to shmooze it up on the terraces of Ibizan superclubs, trudge around mud-filled stages at a list of festivals the size of your arm or simply charcoal your sausages on the coals of a hastily arranged BBQ – one thing is essential to the success of your summer….the soundtrack. This year we’ve decided to take all the hard work out of at least that aspect; with the launch of PALMS OUT SOUNDS: OF SUMMER! Twice a week all through the season we will be offering up summer themed mixtapes from some of the world biggest, and fastest rising producers and DJs; meaning an end to bickering about who gets to put the next track on the iPod! These mixes are designed to bring out the best of the summer and provide you with perfect party music; we don’t just want 20 bangers put in an order, we want something a little bit different with some tracks that might just make your day / night / early morning! So expect to hear some sublime selections and even some exclsuive track giveaways from the likes of Utah Saints, Shadow Dancer, Louis La Roche, Shinichi Osawa and many many more….kicking off in SEVEN DAYS TIME (2nd July) with the mighty FOAMO (plus as a bonus the world exclusive of his huge dubstep remix of La Roux…) and then three days later with the synthtastic SIDECHAINS!!
