The Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival is way more comprehensive, central located, packed with talent and food trucked out then ever before. The event is essentially twice as long, Friday and Saturday and taking up just about all of N6th Street in Williamsburg. For a 1 day $25 or 2 day $45 pass you have access to 6 venues in Williamsburg, including Brooklyn Bowl (which is not on N6th Street) to see the best electronic music acts out. Find out more, here.

CMJ has never really made sense to me. A bunch of bands, acts and DJs performing a week long festival in NYC. It is hardly the place to host a festival. Isn’t there always lots of acts all year around at very close venues? Where CMJ can succeed is by showcasing more than up and coming acts, but perhaps a new idea. Thus, BPM 2011 is born. This event is about show casing new and innovative minds that are pioneering a unique pulse, that is the backbone of genres already formed. The pride in this group is the fact that it is not definable, a product, or package. Enjoy some preview music below, and we hope to see you this Friday. My boy Starkey and I run this label called Seclusiasis and we like to drop music that we think is fire. Pittsburgh’s Kastle (aka Palms Out own B. Rich) has been smashing it with his fresh take on bass music; taking elements of r&b, garage, dubstep and house to fuse his own unique style. The nice people at Malibu Rum have released a fun new app for the iPhone which features exclusive music from Palms Out favorites like Savage Skulls, our very own Carli, Mastiksoul, Douster, Major Lazer, Style of Eye, and Johan Hugo– among others. The Malibu Music Mixer lets you mix the music in sync only using the iPhone- includes EQs & FX, and perhaps the coolest feature: a sample bank full of classic dancehall and rave samples. Earlier this year, Malibu helped us throw a party at Pachita in midtown for CMJ with much of our extended family-our friend Tim Erem made a little video for it, featuring new music from Ladybox & Dubbel Dutch. I made it a point to delay writing this article, until I got over the visual appeal of the headphones. But, truth be told, I couldn’t find a negative, except that they don’t really fold up much.

Most striking is the design. They are minimal and utilitarian. Not distracting, but definitely eye catching. They are really beautiful. The phones are coated in an almost military grade rubber and are sturdy as can be. You could spill a drink on them, step on an ear-cup and not worry about them breaking. They sit nicely on your head, and don’t cause any fatigue weighing in at 190 grams.

Sonically, they are also pretty great and most noticeably, they are loud. When you compare back to back, you can tell the sensitivity is high and that they slightly accentuate the bass, but it’s almost a perfect balance for playing live.

It’s the little things that count, though. AIAIAI didn’t stop with just providing amazing headphones, the carrying bag is also a work of art. It’s fashioned out of microfiber cloth and netting inside, with a really really large zipper, so you can open and close the bag easily in the dark.

We don’t have any direct affiliation with AIAIAI, we just really like these.

Belgium has always punched way over it’s weight in the music world; with Soulwax and Aeroplane flying the electronic flag in recent years. The latest wave of production talent to emerge from the heart of the European Union are people like Sound of Stereo, Highbloo and today’s bloggees Geht’s Noch. A quick look at their myspace will show you that; far from being new to the game – these guys have been at the forefront of the Belgian scene for a couple of years and are consistently playing huge parties. They’ve already seen an EP released on Level 75 (featuring a Congorock remix, no less) do super well, and their latest offering won’t disappoint either. ‘Horny EP’, with a remix from fellow Belgian and Boys Noize records member Keatch, have been firmly in our CD wallets for a while now; check out the original track and a mixtape!

Party Like Us Records just released a remix EP of B. Rich’s “Make Me Dance EP”. This is a massive collection of remixes aimed straight for the dancefloor. Manchester’s Heavyfeet take a dark, shuffly approach to the title track turning it into a headbanger with nice breaks sprinkled throughout. Dim Mak’s Autoerotique flip it big room style with really cool UK Funky influenced percussion that builds into a bass heavy frenzy. Newcomer J. Rabbit pretty much blew our minds with the production on his super dancefloor friendly dubstep remix that has a little breaks section in the middle. Squire of Gothos took no prisoners bringing their signature neo-rave sound to “It’ll Be Alright”, completely twisted. In the weird tradition of B. Rich remixes I’ve done I went out of my element again on “Bump”, this time going for a bouncy techno vibe. Hear all the previews at Beatport.

Sugarbeat Club @ Cabaret Voltaire Edinburgh – 30/10/2009!!

Lithuania is not a country that you generally hear much about. A quick check of a generic online encyclopedia will tell you a fair bit about the former Soviet ties and subsequent independence, along with the fact that Vilnius is currently a very deserving ‘European Capital of Culture’. What it sadly doesn’t tell you is about the underground music scene that has been bubbling away for the past couple of years – powered largely by Metal on Metal, The Sneekers and Aout6. The latter has recently released a debut EP, Stolen Stylophone; which has gained some heavy support from a diverse range of DJ’s from Larry Tee through to DJ Zinc. We’re pleased to offer you three of those tracks, including a fairly tech heavy effort from Tom EQ.
